Women
of Jazzathon
For the most
part of history,
Women were mostly
renowned as
the best singers,
the best dancers
and certainly
much better
looking than
men when it
came to stage
performances.
But In South
Africa few music
lovers really
took notice
of the strong
compliment of
women taking
their rightful
place on music
stages across
the country.
However, this
phenomenon has
caught the imagination
and interest
of the patrons
of Jazzathon.
Since it's inception,
the festival
has been a proud
supporter of
women in music.
JCQ Productions
vision is to
encourage and
explore the
skills of women
as instrumentalists,
band leaders,
arrangers, producers,
etc.

Youth
of Jazzathon
At the annual
festival itself,
the organizers
ensure that
the youth have
a strong presence.
Many of young
musicians who
first strutted
their stuff
on the Jazzathon
stage have become
bright stars
in South African
music. A few
household names
today, have
cut their teeth
at the festival,
including some
musicians who
have since released
albums and travelled
overseas extensively
to perform on
the international
circuit. This
emphasis is
cemented annually
when young musicians
are featured
on the same
stage as seasoned
musicians and
through workshops
that raise the
bar of achievement.
Over and above
this, the younger
members of the
community have
actively participated
in shadowing
production staff
to increase
the network
of skills that
are needed to
stage quality
music events.
At the same
time, they are
able to meet
and interact
with their heroes.
