The Cape Town Jazzathon 2021 – Press Release 1: (23 November 2020)
The Cape Town Jazzathon will celebrate the 25th Edition of The People’s Festival in January 2021. However, like all events scheduled within the time of Covid19, The Producers of the Festival – JCQ Productions – have had to adjust and look at alternative ways to host the iconic event. Unfortunately, there will not be a live show at the V&A from 7 – 10 Jan 2021.
However, as the world is still in the grip of a pandemic, and while we have all endured one of the most challenging years ever, it gives us great pleasure to announce some exciting news. We are proud to announce that The Cape Town Jazzathon 2021 will go gloriously global, diversely dramatic, and dynamically digital as we broadcast this iconic event via online platforms early next year.
The event will be filmed in different locations and showcase artists from all over Cape Town while including some rare footage from previously hosted Jazzathon festivals.
Most recently, at The Cape Town Jazzathon held in January of 2020, the producers set up a trial run by broadcasting over social media platforms and were amazed by the response received from an audience of more than 90,000 people who viewed the live stream while it was hosted at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre.
“There is no doubt that musicians and music lovers look forward to this annual event, and many ardent fans plan their holiday season accordingly, and thus we simply cannot disappoint our followers” says Craig Parks, founder of Jazzathon, “This has been a tough year for everyone, especially musicians who have not been able to perform or earn an income. Not only is it crucial to keep the brand and spirit of this beloved festival alive, but our plan is to ensure that Jazzathon remains a highlight to kick start the Cape Town events calendar every new year.”
The Cape Town Jazzathon will be broadcast in Mid-January 2021 and be available for a limited viewing period. Although the event will be free, viewers are welcome to donate any amount of money towards the festival. Proceeds will go towards Cape based artists who have had income challenges brought about by COVID19.
Current Sponsors of The Cape Town Jazzathon include:
- The City of Cape Town
- The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport
- The V&A Waterfront
- Par Kan Foundation
NB THE EXACT DATE FOR THE VIRTUAL JAZZATHON FESTIVAL
AND THE LINE UP WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY THE END OF THE YEAR.
