It is with great pleasure that we – JCQ Productions – inform you that the annual Cape Town Jazzathon will once again take place at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre from the Thursday 6th to the Sunday 9th of January 2022. As per usual, the daily programme will run from 12h00 – 20h00 over 4 days. Fans will be able to see some of the latest jazz acts mixed in with many of the Jazzathon favourites.
In preparation for 2022, the Producers of the Cape Town Jazzathon – JCQ Productions in association with Par Kan Entertainment – have managed to pull together an interesting programme which includes workshops, satellite performances, and online showcases of various events that have taken place over the past year and will continue as we head on to the upcoming festival.
Looking back at 2020 and 2021, it is safe to say that by now everyone is rather fed up with COVID and the pandemic restrictions it brings. Many events have been cancelled or postponed, leading to many musicians being out of work while others have had to re-invent their strategies and lifestyles. Somehow, Jazzathon has always managed to find a way to provide a platform for musicians. This year was no exception.
With the support of our sponsors – The City of Cape Town, The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, The V&A Waterfront, and The Artscape, Jazzathon was able to film more than 20 live performances, interviews and workshops at various venues around Cape Town. In March this year, we joined one of our partners, Music Exchange on a roadshow to various towns including Barrydale, Prince Albert, Grabouw, Knysna and Swellendam. Not only were we amazed at the talent but we discovered some amazing young-and-upcoming bands while delivering our sort-after Song Writing workshops. You will soon be able to hear these young song writers on a newly produced and released album (available on CD only) called “Emerging Sounds – Volume 1”
Meanwhile, most of the recorded live videos recorded for Jazzathon earlier this year, are now also available to view on our YouTube Channel.
As we are all constantly hopeful and positive in mindset, and as we get ready to welcome the new year, we suggest that you book your leave now and block off the first week of January 2022 so that you can enjoy the music and the sunshine as we take a well deserved breakaway from the haphazard pass 2 years of uncertainties.
Sponsors for The Cape Town Jazzathon next year include The City of Cape Town and The Department of Cultural Affairs & Sport.
